SCHOOL COMMITTEE

MONTHLY.■MEETING. The monthly meeting of the Cambridge District High School Committee was held at the school-house last evening, when the chairman (Mr A. N. Macky) presidod, and Messrs H. Ferguson, C. Euge, A. B. Hodgson, P. T. Glanvillc, Geo. Calvert, V. G. Boulton, the secretary (Mr C. W. Clark), and headmaster (Mr Griffith Jones) were present. Alterations to School Doors. Mr Ferguson reported that he had obtained an estimate for the alteration of the school doors as proposed at the last meeting of the Committee to make the doors open outwards, and the cost of the work would be about £l4 or £ls for the 12 doors.

It was resolved that the estimate be submitted to the Education Board.

Conveyance of Children.

■ A letter was reeoivod that the contract in connection with the conveyance of children from the French Pass district had been transferred from Mr R. Mackay to Mr Hampton, who requested that the Committee obtain information from the Education Board as to his liability in the event of an dent.

The Board had replied that the matter had been roferred to the 'Educational Department for a ruling but in the moantime the' Board would aeeept the responsibility of indemnifying the contractor in the event of an accident and injury to the passengers. The Board also requestod information as to the conditions of contract. At present, the financing of the contract is subject to a subsidy by the Board of 6d a day per child of 10 years and under, or 2/6 per week per family. Donation of Pictures. Letter received from Mrs Charles S. Boer offering the school two framed pictures. The headmaster referred the Committee to the pictures already received, and it was decided to write thanking the donor for -her kind offer. Paddy's Market. A balance sheet was presented in connection with the recent school Paddy's Market, showing a clear profit of £2B. The Committee expressed their heaTty appreciation of the fine efforts of the headmaster and his teachers. The headmaster wished it known that the school staff greatly appreciated the help of the children and parents. Visitors' Report. The monthly visitors' report to the school was presented and indicated several items needing attention. The matter of topping the treos in the school grounds was left in the hands of the chairman to attend to; also the gravolling of the school bicycle sheds. The meeting decided to make application for a subsidy from the Department in connection with the amount raised at the Paddy's MarketOn the advice of the headmaster, the Committee decided to immediately and firmly request tho Education Board to appoint a male assistant in place of Mr Cook, resigned. Accounts totalling £49.17/6 pere passed for payment.
