LYNCH TAMELY BELL-BINOEES. SAT U RDAY NIGHT. There will probably be quite a number of people in Cambridge who have never of "Campanology." This art, although comparatively little known, has its origin in the dim past. The word is derived from the Italian word for a bell, and hence denotes the art of playing upon bells. It is many years since Cambridge has been treated to a campanologian concert, but the famous Lynch Family of Bell-ringers, who appear at the Town Hall on Saturday, have been connected with campanology for the past 57 years, and have deliver ed concerts from Great Britain to Java. It was in 1872 that the Lynch Family first landed in New Zealand from England. They have visited the Dominion on four occasions since, the last being" in 1594, just 30 years ago, and.the memories of those wonderful days sill live in the thoughts of the Lyneh. Family, and all who witnessed : their performances. Their name has loomed large as the creators of campanology. The audience assembling on Saturday night will find the programme to be presented somewhat out of the ordinary. The bells —some as large as ehurch bells, some only a few inches high—are laid on a table and manipulated with wonderful dexterity so as to provide a caseado of sound. The bells have a note remarkable for its clearness and purity. The Great Silver Organ Chimes is the largest of its kind in Australasia and. has a distinctive tone and great range of notes. Every item on these instruments is greatly appreciated. The sweet Ghissophone is another novel instrument. It was invented by Mr Harry Lynch some years ago. The Lynch Family will be supported by a brilliant combination of talented artists, viz., Mdlle. Nughtpn Le Marehant, soprano; Mrs Adio Reynolds, soubretto and nionologist; Mr Harry Baitic, comedian and raconteur.
