HAUTAPU
SOCIAL GATHERING. Last night them was a very large ami successful gathering at the Hautapu Hall, being arranged by the farmers of the district to enable district residents and friends to enjoy a social evening. Owing to the fact that the social was not advertised, and the usual courtesy of an invitation was not extended to the press, we cannot give a lengthy report, but the following details have been supplied us.
The hall had been very beautifully decorated, reflecting credit on the ladies responsible. A highlv successful and artistic musical programme was greatly enjoyed by all. Songs were given by Mesdames Wells and Keans, Miss., Thompson. Messrs T. Boyce (2), J. Haworth and P. Basham, Miss Aniv Noon and Mr T. Hampshire gave violin solos, Miss Bradshaw pianoforte solo, Miss Estelle Peel, of Auckland, contributed a recitation, Mr W. H. Peed a reading, and Messrs W. Maberly and J. Haworth vocal duet. The accompaniments were played by Misses Mitchell, Bradshaw and Rita Wratten.
After partaking of a delightful supper, dancing was indulged in, Mr J. Russell acting as M.C., and the music being provided by volunteers.
Great credit is due to the committee of management for the excellent, arrangements throughout. Messrs Anderson and H. Cubis were the main workers among the men, while Mrs Anderson and Miss Allwill were the leaders of the Indies ’ committee.
We understand that it is intended to have further socials of a similar nature during the winter.
