FAREWELL SOCIAL. (From Our Correspondent.) On the evening of the T4th May a farewell social was given to Mr and Mrs Alan Aricll, who the leaving for North Auckland, where Mr. Ariell has purchased a farm. The large gathering of residents testified to the esteem in which the guests of the evening were held. Dancing was the order of the evening, under the able control of Mr Griffon as M.C. Between the dances items were contributed as follows: —Mrs Ariel!, song; Miss Dean, Sailors’ Hornpipe; Miss Clara Griffon, song; Miss I. Mocking, recitation; Mr Dean, recitations. ' Mr Kirkby and Mr Hicks in neat speeches, expressed the popularity of Mr and Mrs Ariell, and the loss their departure means to Mamigatautari, where they were regarded bv all as good neighbours and an asset to the district. Good wishes for future prosperity in their new venture go with Mr and Mrs Aril'll from all residents of Maungatautari. The Recent Gale. Evidence of the force of the cyclonic disturbance of last Monday night is shown by the damage done on the farm of Mr F. Day, of Maungata-utari. A corrugated iron shed was demolished through the wind entering an open doorway and bursting the roof and walls asunder, scattering the iron in all directions. A year-old calf, which happened to be sheltering on the leeward side of the building, was killed by the falling walls.
