RABBIT BURROWS A HANDICAP.

The following, Contributed to a Kfug Country paper by a recent, visitor to this district, makes interesting read: ing:— . _■ V , I’m not a golfer, much to mv sorrow'; but this afternoon I experienced much pleasure in following a number of enthusiasts round the Horahora course. It is a course of many thrills, for who knows but where you drove that ball in safety yesterday may now be a hidden pit; seeking to devour golf balls, owing to the over-night, activities of 1 Brer Rabbit? The game is certainly an exciting sport when played among the bunnies, and it is estimated that there are several million, at least, of these in this part of the province. As I followed The players a genial Scottish gentleman, a Vickers’ engineer, who is .superintending the erection of the new works, stated, in reply to my timid statement, that I did not know the game, “Wool moo, that’s ye’rr ain loss,” as lie cunningly guided his ball over the yawning mouth of a burrow in front. “What do you do when the ball is irrecoverably lost in a. rabbit’s home?” I asked another golfer. He looked at me sadly. “Well” he replied, “You do five things. First, if there are no ladies or parsons about, and your partner does not: mind, you express in appropriate terms vour opinion of the bunnv tribe; second, you put down another ball and count, a shot; third, you write the lost ball 5 down to profit and loss; fourth, you wonder where the dickens that three-and-six is coming from to buy another ball; and', fifth, you get on with the game. That ’s wliat L am going 1o do now.” I askeef no more questions! As the course led 11s down the far side of.a gentle ridge 1 saw, far away against the skyline, a., following pair of golfers one of whom’ had his head and shoulders buried in a rabbit’s burrow with the rest of him elevated skywards at an alarmingly acute, angle. Verily golf among the rabbit has a charm all its own!
