WINTRY WEATHER

SNOW AND BAIN Wintry conditions continue to prevail, though the sun is shining to-day and the prospects are more promising. Yesterday was bitterly cold, with frequent showers, and this morning Maungataufciri and Pirongia mountains were covered with a mantle of white, one of the heaviest falls ever seen on these hills. The rainfall for this month, up to 9 a.m. to-day totals ?,M7in. This is not an exceptionally heavy record, but what is so extraordinary is the fact that up to the present we have only had three days this month without rain.

There is some consolation in knowing that other parts have fared worse than us. which is usually the case in Cainbridge. In Auckland there has only been one day this month without rain, and the rainfall up to yesterday morning totalled r>..7Tin, against ."..17in at Cambridge for the same period.
