FENCOURT DRAINAGE

BOARD MEETING. IMvCLASSILIGATION MADE. A meeting of the Fencourt. Drainage Board was held in Mr P. S. Vealo's office yesterday afternoon. Present: — Messrs .T. T. Entwistle (chairman), W. Moore, R. Feisst and W. Wyatt. Engineer's Report. Mr 11. Roche, C.E. who has been engaged in reclassifying the Board's area, ready for the striking of this year's rate, presented the following report on his work:— "As instructed by you I have made a re-classification of your drainage district, and enclose same herewith. I have had some difficulty in nsc< rtaining the condition of the country before the drains were made so as Li accurately estimate the benefits derived from the drainage, but have taken such evidence upon the matter as was available, and hope that you will find the classification a fair one.

"Some areas seem to have been omitted from tho former classification, as a portion of Section 1, Black 1 (Turner's) towards tho North Western corner of the area; also portions of the To Miro Settlement and sections 225, 22(5, 227, Hautapu Parish (Richardson's). These are now included.

"There is also an area of the Hautapu Drainage District lying to the Southward of Thornton Road, a very large quantity of water from which discharges into your drains and is carried through the. whole length of the Fencourt district. I would recommend that as your drains are carrying the water from this area and it is materially benefitting by your expenditure, the Hautapu Drainage Board should be asked either to pay an annual subsidy commensurate with the benefit received; or else transfer the area in question to the Fencourt Drainage Board." The new valuations were accepted by the Board. In connection with the area in the Hautapu Board's area, mentioned by Mr Roche, Messrs Entwisle, Moore -and Wyatt wen- appointed to interview the Hautapu Board and see what arrangements could be made for a transfer. Advance on Loan

A letter was received from the Audit Department re the advance made on loan monies by the Board's solicitors, slating the Department could not regard the procedure as a legal one, but no further action would be taken. Clearing of a Drain

Some discussion took place as to whether the Board was responsible for this drain, and finally Messrs Lntwislo, Feisst and Wallace were deputed to view the drain and given power to act.
