CAMBRIDGE RIFLE FLUB

ANNUAL MEETING

A SUCCESSFUL YEAR

On Saturday evening last, the annual £ollcml meeting in connection with the Cambridge Rifle Club was held at the Farmers’ Club room, when Mr E. Wallis (president) occupied the chair, and there was an attendance or about twenty members. Report and Balance Sheet

Mr I\. 11. Feisst (secrotary uni treasun*r), presented a most interesting report (verbal) of the year’s working. The Chib, lie stated, had only made half the usual profit on ammunition, on account of the higher charge made to clubs, but still it had been a successful season financially. There had not been quite so many• shooting days as previously, though more prizes had been offered. Some ten new members had •joined the club. The year had started with 27 financial members, and ended with 25 paid to date, while some live or six others had riot yet paid their fees. Forty-nine prizes, aggregating ,£2O 17/ in value, had been allotted during the season for fifteen days’ shooting, and it was pleasing to know there had been an extended prize list, with an advantage to the club. Only twice had there been less than nine competitors for the competitions. Mr Feisst said the Club was proud of the record put up by its members in outside matches. Their secretary had secured a good win at Trentham, at Waihi several members had been successful, and at Frankton Cambridge Club members won most of the principal events, Mr Harbutt carrying off the Belt, with credit to himself and the club, and other members doing well also. In five teams’ match against Frankton, also, Cambridge had also done very well.

The balance sheet showed that they had commenced with a credit balance of £3O odd, with ammunition on hand valued at £3 1.1/. The year had closed with a credit; balance in hand of £'24 odd, and a large quantity of ammunition on hand, which brought the credit up to £39 7/2. The principal items of receipts were: Members' subscriptions, £lO 7/; entry fees £lO 5/6; cash donation £1; ammunition sold £34 10/. On the debit side were, among other items: Ammunition £3O ,1/; affiliation fee £1; annual dinner £o .11/; competition prizes £2O 17/; advertising and printing £2 4/; targets, etc., £4 1/0. The position of; affairs, as stated by the reports and balance sheet, was favourably commented upon. ! Mr Harbutt congratulated the club on the very satisfactory financial condition of affairs. He stated it was not a good plan to pile up money, and lie suggested that the club engage paid markers, to enable club members to get more enjoyment out of shooting. They should also have better targets, and generally improve conditions at the butts. Mr Harbutt expressed'pleasure at the number of young shots coming into the club, ami said the success of the club was assured so long as this continued. Mr \V. Tarr supported Mr Harbutt’s suggestion re improvements. The report and balance-sheet wore adopted. Thanks Mr W. Moore congratulated the secretary (Mr Feisst) on the work he had done. Tt was very largely due to him that the club was in the position it was to-day. He moved a hearty vote of thanks to Mr Feisst for his valuable services. This was seconded by Mr J. Bruce, who paid a high compliment to Mr Feisst’s good work. The motion was carried with yppla use. A hearty vote of thanks was also accorded the retiring president (Mr E.
