CAMBRIDGE COMPETITIONS

TO COMMENCE OCTOBER Ist.

PROGRAMME ARRANGED A meeting of the Executive of the Cambridge Musical and Elocutionary Competitions was held last night, when important business was transacted. It was definitely decided that the Competitions commence on Monday, Ist October. The reports of sub-committees set up to revise the syllabus were received and discussed at length, the whole programme being eventually adopted. The syllabus will comprise some sixty classes, as against 40 for last year’s competitions. Included in the programme are sections in both elocutionary and vocal sections, for ladies and men who have never won a first prize at a public competition.

The appointment of a judge for the vocal and instrumental sections was made, tentatively. , The judges are to be consulted as to choice of test selections, and as soon as these are to hand, the printing of the programmes will be proceeded with.

It was reported that other promises of special prizes had been received, including one of five guineas from Mr George Calvert.

Judging by enquiries being made already, there is every prospect of the scope of the Competitions being considerably extended this year.
