LEAGUE FOOTBALL

REPRESENTATIVE MATCH HAWKE'S BAY V. CAMBKIDGEHAMILTON The first provincial League representative football match to be held in Cambridge is set down for Wednesday next, 23rd inst., at Victoria Square. Keen interest is being evinced in this match by League football enthusiasts, and it is hoped and expected that there will be a very large attendance of the public on Wednesday. The Hawke's Bay team is. said to be a very strong combination. The visitors expect to give Auckland reps, a good run, and Auckland is pitting its very strongest combination against them. The Cam-bridge-Hamilton combination should make a strong team that should give a good account of themselves against the visitors, as both teams are now getting into good form. We can safely look forward to a line exhibition of clever football in the forthcoming match on Wed/.'sday. . , GWYNNE CUP MATCH. In our report of the CambridgeHamilton East match for the Gwynne Cup, in our last issue, wo stated that teachers from both schools who were present considered there were infringements on both sides. This was scarcely correctly put. The Hamilton teachers complained that infringements of rules had been allowed, but both teachers present from Hamilton East admitted that such infringements took place equally, by both teams, and that the referee was quite impartial. We may add that the reason given for protest is "that the referee was not mutually agreed upon by the contesting teams." MOASCAE CUP .Hamilton High School plays the Auckland Grammar School at Auckland to-day in the N.I. semi-final for the Moascar Cup. Keen interest is being taken in the game, and it is generally anticipated that Hamilton will give Auckland a good run. Three Cambridge boys—Keith Anderson, C. Thompson and E. Veale—are playing for the Hamilton team. LEAGUE NOTES (By "Oval.") This afternoon at Victoria Square, if the "weather conditions are at all propitious, the Auckland B representative team will meet the loeaLLeague reps. Although the ground is wet, a keen contest is anticipated. This evening at the Central Hotel the visiting team will be the guests of the local League at a complimentary dinner at which His Worship the Mayor (Mr S. Lewis) will preside. League enthusiasts will have the pleasure of seeing the Hawke's Bay League representative team in action when they will play a combined Ham-ilton-Cambridge representative team — a strong combination. The Hawke's Bay team tire reputed as being a really good combination and are playing Auckland to-day. This is the first occasion on which a touring fully representative provincial team has played at Cambridge and a sterling game should be witnessed.
