Mr C. Meredith, who has been indisposed for a few days, was able to resume his duties at the High School this morning. Sir Joseph Ward has been invited to contest the Rotorua seat at the general election, a very largely signed requisition being forwarded to him. Mr Kismet K. Wragge, son of Mr Clgment L. Wragge, has been elected a Fellow of tho Royal Meteorological Society, London. Mr M. Cable, chief corporation electrical engineer at Wellington, who was some weeks ago selected by tho City Council to proceed to England to supervise the manufacture of the plant for the city power station, will leave in about a month’s time.

A former prominent resident of Victoria, British Columbia, Mr William Christie, died at Auckland on Tuesday at the ago of 59. Mr Christie was for many years manager of the Canadian Pacific Telegraph Company- at Victoria, but retired from the service on account of failing health about 10 years ago. An old Wellington resident, Mr Giovanni Battista Caleinai, aged 87, died this week. The late Mr Caleinai, who was born at Livorno, Italy, in 1835, was a resident of Wellington for over 40 years. He was a founder and the first president of the Garibaldi Club in Wellington. Archbishop Julius, Primate of New Zealand, who has been attending the Anglican General Synod in Auckland, intends to remain in the North Island for the next few weeks. Arrangements arc being made in Christchurch to give a public welcome on his return there.

Or J. W. Anderson has been re-elect-ed chairman of the Matamata County Council. This is the tenth year in succession in which Mr Anderson has held that position —a fact that speaks for itself. At yesterday’s annual meeting of the Council, flattering reference was made to the conspicuous ability and zeal shown by Mr Anderson in the discharge of his duties.
