DOUBLE TRAGEDY ASPHYXIATED BY GAS (By Telegraph—Press Association) CHBISTCHURCH, Jan. 9. Janet Scott, aged about 37, and her eight year old daughter, were found dead in their home at Clifton, Sumner, yesterday, apparently asphyxiated by gas. The husband was away from Lome, and as his wife and daughter had not been seen since Wednesday by the neighbours the police were informed. On investigation they found the bodies in bed. One end of a tube was attached to a gas burner and the other was in proximity to the heads' of deceased, the g*hs being turned'on.

SLIPPED OVER A RIDGE GIRL DROWNED AT FOXTON (By Telegraph—Press Association) FOXTON, Jan. 9. A drowning accident occurred about 7.30 last night near the wharf, the victim being a girl named Laura Hcnskie, 15 years of age. She was paddling in tho water in company with a young man named Irwin Wright, and slipped over a ledge into deep water and was drowned. SUICIDE BY POISON (Bv Telegraph—Press Association) GOEE, Jan. 9. William Hunter, single, aged 49, a bootmaker, of Clinton, committed suicide by poison this morning. DEATH IN THE STREET (By Telegraph—Press Association) TIMARU, Jan. 9. Stanley Woods, aged 52, living with his family in Dee Street, was found dead this morning in Bank Street. There was no evidence of foul play. Deceased was a garage caretaker, and left work at 10.30 last* night for home. Apparently he was not following the shortest route, and he appears to have fallen on his face and to have died without moving.

The Postmaster-General made an official statement yesterday of the decision arrived at in regard to the alleged leakage of information at the Napier telegraph office. Three of the four men who were suspended in connection with the alleged divulgenee of information regarding the cablegram concerning the Springboks match at Napier, had heen fined £lO each, while the fourth wasVdll under suspension pending further advice.
