Mr and Mrs John Postles, of Mount Eden, are at the Masonic Hotel. Mr J. Ferguson left Cambridge on Boxing Day for Gisborne, where he will spend a few weeks' holiday. Mr James Bailey, of the Taranaki Education Board, is at the National Hotel.

Mr J. A. Young, M.P. for Waikato, was among the visitors to Cambridge on Tuesday last. Mr J. W. Cocks (Town Clerk) and Mrs Cocks left Cambridge yesterday morning for Waitomo Caves, where they will spend a few days holiday. Among the visitors to Cambridge during the holidays was Mr F. C. Jones, of Kotare, North Taranaki, a member of the Clifton County Council. Mr A. E. Fear, of Pirongia, organiser for the Dairy Farmers' Union, who has been lecturing on the aims and objects of the Union to South Island farmers, returned home on Saturday. Mr E. H. Hiley, formerly General Manager of the New Zealand Railways has been appointed a member of the Eoyal Commission on the local Government of Greater London.

The first medal awarded by the Royal Life-saving Society, London, for distinguished service in New Zealand, was presented to Mr S. K. Bassett last week at .Sumner, Christchurch.. Dr F. W. Hilgendorf, lecturer in biology and economics at Lincoln College, leaves with his family at the end of tho year on an extended visit to the United Kingdom and the Continent. Colonel J. J. Esson has been appointed to the post of secretary to the Treasury, which was rendered vacant by the promotion of Colonel G. F. C. Campbell to the office of controller and auditor-general. Mr C. F. Roekcl, who has been a member.of the teaching staff of the Levin District High School for some years, and has accepted a position at tho Ward School, Blenheim, was presented by the staff with a tennis racquet and electro-plated shaving glass. A marriage has been arranged, and shortly takes place, between Mr T. E. Y. Seddon, M.P. for Westland, and Miss Beatrice Wood, daughter of the late Mr William Wood, of Christchurch Miss Wood is a. sister of Mr B. B. Wood, the well-known representative golfer and cricketer and a son-in-law of Sir Joseph Ward. The deaths have occurred of Mr. William E. Gutteridge, manager of tho Hamilton Hardware Co., Ltd., aged 54; Mr A. G. Lather, a Wellington vocalist; Mr Walter Bruce, for many years shipping reporter for the New Zealand Herald, aged 72; Mrs J. C. Hickey, one of the original settlers of the Opunak"! district at the ago of 64; Mrs Mary Ross, widow of the late Mr Donald Ross of Wanganui; Mr Kenneth Mcintosh, of Hamilton, in his 64th year; Mr John Rose, of Melbourne, a brother of Mr W. H. Rose, of Christchurch; Mr David McKenzie, of Waiwera South, aged 83; Mr Dugald McPherson, of the firm of Mc Pherson and Kemp, Dunodin, . aged 75; and Mrs James Staples, an esteemed early settler of Manakau, in her 58th year. _
