STOCK TRAINS

IMPROVED FACILITIES,

Improved facilities for transit of stock by rail between Frankton junction and Putaruru have resulted from representations made ho the Eailway Department by the Farmers’ Union. The request of the Farmers’ Union was for alterations to the rime-table to facilitate the transit of- stock from stations between Frankton Junction and Tc Kuiti to stations on the Rotorua line up to Matamata. The reply from the General Manager of Railways (Mr E. H. Hilcy) was to tHe effect that the train leaving To Kuiti at 6.30 a.m. could not be altered as suggested without seriously impairing its usefulness. It had been arranged, however, for a goods train to leave Frankton Junction for Putaruru at 1.50 p.m. on Tuesdays Thursdays and Saturdays. This arrangement, the writer stated would permit of stock being railed from Ohaupo to stations on the' Matamata line in one day, on the days mentioned and it was not considered that the volume of traffic affected warranted any further alteration to the time-table.
