Correspondence.

To the Editor.

Su, I shall be glad if you will kindly allow me space in your widely read paper for a few remarks re the Thornton-/oad. About August last-'-year the Borough Council, having secured a gravel pit on the French Pass-road, started to cart gravel from - there to the centre of the town. After a day’s carting the Thorntonroad was practically cut to pieces, and several of the residents protested verbally to members of the Borough Council, but were assured that, as soon as the carting was finished and fine weather set in, the Thornton-road would be thoroughly repaired. However, wet weather was the daily order of things and the one and only decent road around Cambridge was in a verv short time nothing blit ruts and holes. Apart from the incon* venience of driving over this switchback, the wear and tear on vehicles and harness was considerable. Members of the Council were again approached, with the result that a few loads of gravel were used to fill up the worst ruts and holes, and up to 1 the present time this is the extent to which the Council have 'thoroughly repaired” (?) the Thornton-road; Altho’during the present dry weather the road is apparently in fairly good order, as soon as we get twenty-fomr-' hours’ rain to thoroughly soak into the hollows and ruts, we shall Have a veritable quagmire instead of the best road around Cambridge! Trusting that the Borough Council will - recognise that a load of gravel in time saves nine.”—l am, etc., “PRO BONO PUBLICO,” <
