Hawken’s Pictures
* Thursday evening’s big “hit” in connection with Hawken’s Pictures entertainment is to be a massive 3500 ft. ‘‘Electric” film entitled “From Circus to Racecourse,” showing phases of circus life and the race for the French Grand Prix — the Blue Riband of the Turf. The play opens atj Tisdal Circus, where we meet Comte des Nozeils, who is'lessee- of the circus, Estelle, an equilibrist, and Robert, a circus rider. The Comte is in love with Estelle, though she does not love him. Robert also loves her. In a tight-rope act, Estelle falls to the ground. Robert carries her to her dressing-room.' The Comte sends. her a note, which is returned unopened. Nursed by her lover, Estelle recovers. The Comte becomes jealous, and dismisses Robert. Robert obtains work in the stables of a well-known English trainer. The trainer has a horse, Voltigeur, entered for the Grand Prix, and Robert learns he to have the honor of riding for the Blue Riband of the French Turf. The Comte who has heavily backed another horse, swears that Robert shall not live to finish the race. He locks Estelle in a
room, but she escapes by means of „a telegraph wire, and tracts the Comte to the course. As he crouches behind a fence, revolver in hand, just as the field, headed by Yoltigeur, rounds the bend, Estelle is upon him, and holds him until a policeman' arrives and shakesjjall the fight out of him. As Robert, after riding a winning race, : ccmes back into the paddock, he meets Estelle and learn what she has done to save his life —and the race.
The“ Riot” is another exceptionally good comedy by the Keystone Co., mkers of that grand comedy “A Noise from the Deep,” which got such a great’reception when screened here a few weks ago. “The Riot” is said to be even better than a noice “A Noise from the Deep”—and that should ensure a bumper attendance! on Thursday evening.
