OHAUPO RACES.

The Ohaupo races, postponed from 16th inst., on account of the floods, were held yesterday at “ Glengariff,” the property ofMrH. J. Greenslade, M.H.R. A large number of people from all parts of the district took advantage of the glorious weather and journeyed to the gathering which passed off very successfully. Good fields faced the starter in the majority of the events, and the racing proved very interesting. Cambridge sportsmen were very successful at the meeting, the locally-owned and trained horses appropriating the principal events. Mr Norman Bank’s Uranium had an easy win in the big event —the Ohaupo Handicap; and the popular owner was congratulated on his success ; Mr W. C. Morgan’s Baritone secured second place in the Handicap Hurdles; and Mr J. Hannon’s Miss Crispin rewarded her backers in the Maiden Handicap. Mr R. J. Pauli acted as judge in the absence of Mr Jas. Taylor, and his decisions gave every satisfaction. Mr C. O’Connor maintained his high reputation as starter. Bookies were licensed to ply their sailing upon payment of 4 guineas. A swarm of these gentry were present and betting, was brisk. The Ohaupo Brass Band was also present and played several selections during the day. Results of the racing:— Handicap Hurdles—The Frenchman 1, Baritone 2. The only starters. Glengariff Handicap—Sweet Alice 1, Keep Step 2, Kola Nip 3. Won easily. Handicap Trot—Kirikiriroa 1, No Name 2. Ohaupo Handicap—Uranium 1, Uenuku 2, Cachuca 3. Won all the way. Maiden Handicap—Miss Crispin 1, Waihou 2, Bell Bird 3. Miss Crispin shot out a hundred yards from the post and won easily, Second Handicap Trot—Maureen 1, Kirikiriroa 2. Flying Handicap—Sweet Alice 1, Keep Step 2, Cachuca 3.
