BOWLING.

CAMBRIDGE v. HAMILTON. Yesterday three full rinks and a team of first year’s players, representing the Cambridge Bowling Club, journeyed to Hamilton to try and recover the laurels won by the Hamilton Club on its recent visit to Cambridge. The Hamilton greens were in good order, playing very fast and well. The bowlers and their wives extended a hearty welcome to the visitors, and treated them in a very hospitable manner. Taken altogether the outing was a most enjoyable one. The visitors were conveyed to Hamilton in one of Messrs Crowther and Bell’s brakes, and they desire to thank that firm for the capital arrangements they made for the trip. The play was not quite up to exhibition form, and ended in a win for Cambridge by ten points on the aggregate. Although the Cambridge first year players were defeated by seven points they did very well, as at the last minute their skip (Carr) could not go, and Mr C. C. Buckland had to take his place without practice. The games were as follows : Cambridge. Hamilton. H. Henderson S. Fortescue W. Earl J. S. Rond v A. Wallace T. Chappell F. O’Toole (s) 22 G. Bateman (s) 10 H. Davy Rollinson J. Lundon Warren M. Wells Wilson W. Wright (s) 13 Manning (s) 18 F. Sanders Parr A. White Mitchell J. Rivers F. Fortescue T. Richards (s) 19 Yarney (s) 16 Cambridge led from the start and was never caught. On the seventh head the scores were —Cambridge 20, Hamilton 14. At the fourteenth head Cambridge had put on 22, making their score 42, and Hamilton added 14, making them 28. From the fourteenth to the twenty-first heads Hamilton recovered a bit and put on 16 in the last seven heads, while Cambridge put on 12, the games ending—Cambridge 54, Hamilton 44. The first year’s players were : Cambridge. Hamilton. E. Davy Atkin F. Pilcher Going J. Hair O’Neil C. Buckland (s) 19 Hyde (s) 26 In this match the game at the tenth head stood—Hamilton 14, Cambridge 4. Cambridge came with a rush and put on 10 in the two next heads, making the score 14 all the twelfth head, but from this to the end Hamilton drew steadily ahead and won nicely with 7 points to the good.
