ENGLISH EDUCATION BILL.
GREAT MEETING OF CATHOLICS. [by electric telegraph—copyright.] (per press association.) (Received (btober 15, 10.43 p.m.) London, October 15. It was officially announced to-day that the Government had decided to appeal against the West Riding judgment, with a view to clearing up numerous points of difficulty at the earliest moment. Mr Asquith, addressing his constituents, said whether or not there was an appeal, or whether or not an appeal succeeded, nothing' could modify the Government's intention to give legislative effect to the first principle of the Education Bill, namely, the public control of all education given at the public charge in the English elementary schools must be absolutely unfettered and complete from top to bottom. A great meeting of Catholics at Manchester resolved, to resist the Bill to its utmost, as being distinctive of religious equality.
