Auckland, This Day. The Sonoma, which arrived from Sydney yesterday afternoon, resumed her voyage at 10.40 last night.

A SERIOUS BRAWL.

Auckland, This Day. A brawl occurred 1 ist evening in which a man was severely handled. His nose was broken and it is believed his ribs are also injured. Two arrests have been made in connection with the affair.

THE WESTLAND BY-ELECTION. Hokitika, This Day Mr Michel addressed a large audience in the Princess Theatre last evening, the building being crowded. A vote of thanks to the candidate was carried amid great applause and cheering.

Wellington, This Day. At the Anglican Synod, Bishop Wallis said an effort was being made in England to secure a trained. Evangelist to continue the Mission work among the cooperative workers on the North Island Trunk Railway, if it could not obtain a man at Home, the Synod would have to use the best men they could find among themselves. .
