PRICE OF WHEAT AND FLOUR.

Wellington, Friday, i A deputation of Canterbury flour- | millers outside the Flourmillers' AsI Rociation waited on the Premier to- | day, and made a most emphatic protest against the prices for wheat and flour as fixed by the commission. The main contention was that it was quite impossible to carry on their business at the prices fixed Is i)d for wheat and I'll 15s for flour. It was stated that over ,".0,0(10 bushels of wheat had been purchased at from 5s to 5s 3d before the prices were fixed, and at such prices Hour could not lie sold at a profit under A'l'i per ton. Other members pointed out that even if there had been no war the price of wheat and Hour must have | gone up, probably as high as lis per bushel. The Premier pointed out that the Government could not, and would not, interfere with the commission, but agreed that further evidence might, nn doubt, be heard. This was : a matter for the commission to <le- i cide. I
