ACCIDENTS AND FATALITIES.

An elderly man, named John \ bite, a wharf labourer, was assisting to put on the hatches on a steamer this morning, when he overbalanced and .fell to the bottom of the hold, a distance of about 24ft. He sustained a fracture at the base of the skull, and died in a few minutes.
