General Godley attended the Farmers' Conference today, when the following remit was discussed:— "That the Defence Department be urged to consider the establishment of permanent camps, where men could attend during any period of the year. General Godley stated that if a man could go and drill when he liked it would do away with the benefits to be derived. It was imperative that the men and officers should get accustomed to one another. This could only be bought about by the training camps which had been established at one and the same time. It was not proposed to hoid large camps during the coming vear. Farmers in the future would noUiave to pay £1 for forage and rations. These would be supplied by the Government. After a long discussion the remit was withdrawn.
