BOARD OF EDUCATION

At the [fortnightly meeting of the Board of Education, yesterday, Mr J. Parkinson's tender of £717 for the erection of the Manual and Technical School at Te Aroba was accepted, and the tender of Mr G. H. James, of £294, for enlargement of the school at Mamaku, was also accepted. The resignation of Miss T. A. * Conway, pupil teacher at Frankton, was accepted, Mr H. A. Ellis being appointed to the vacancy. On the recommendation of the Selection Committee, it was decided that school committees be consulted regarding proposed appointments as follows:—Monavale and Pukerimu, cole teacher, Mr P. C. Ritchie; Te Kuiti District High School, secondary assistant, Mr N. J. Crabbe; VVaihi East, assistant. Miss E. M. Clark; Avondale, assistant master, Mr A. J. Shepherd. Applications will be invited for the following appointment:—Assistant master, Hamilton West. The board authorise! re-painting of the school and teacher's residence and" repairs to outbuildings at Ukoroire. The Otangiwai committee was I granted £7 10s for improvements to the school ground. An application from Putaruru for a grant to fence the horse paddock was referred to the inspector, as also was that horn Tautari for a grant for improvements to school ground. The architect is to consult with the Te Aroha Committee regarding the re-grading of sehoolground; the Boani authorised the payrrent of cost of repairs to outbuildings; application is also to be made for authority to sell the teacher's house fer removal, and to pay the master a hsuse allowanace. Application is to be renewed to the Minister for a grant for the erection of a school building at Oparue. The Matangi and Tamahere School Committees are to be consulted regarding the proposed establishment of a central school for Matangi and Tamahere Districts. The architect is to prepare plans and invite tenders for the erection of a school building at Te Akau in terms of the grant voted by Minister. An application from Waihou for a dividing curtain in the school was declined.

The Ngaruwahia committee was granted £l2 to repair damage caused by the gale.

The Lands Department's proposal to lease anungazetted school reserve section 1, block 1, Mangaorongo, was approved. A request from the Matiere Tennis Club for permission to form a tennis court in the schoolground was referred to the committee. The Ongarue committee is to be asked to invite tenders for the purchase of the old school building. The Minister to be asked for authority to sell the Manawarq school reserve, scetion 34, block 11., Wairere.

The chairman was authorised to arrange for the opening of the Te Kuiti District High School, and the addition to the school and also for the attendance of the board members.

Mr Banks was authorised to arrange for the opening of the Waiomou school.
