♦- THE WEATHER MODERATING. PROTECTIVE WORK TO BE UNDERTAKEN. Ry Telegraph. —Press Association. Hokitika, Friday. There is every indication that the sea is subsiding, although a sudden change in the weather may cause further damage, Mr Sharp, resident engineer, arrived on Thursday evening, and it is understood that he is furnishing a report in regard to the position in anticipation of further trouble. The business people and others have removed their belongings to safer quarters. The Government provided £SOO towards protective works, provided a similar sum was raised locally. As this is now assured, the work will be proceeded with immediately.
