HIGH COMMISSIONER'S CABLE

By Telegraph. —Press Association Wellington, Wednesday.

The Department of Agriculture received the following cablegram from the High Commissioner, dated London, March 3rd, regarding the opening of the second series of colonial wool sales:—"The wool sales commenced today. There is a large attendance of buyers, and competition is very keen. Americans are buying freely. The market is very strong. Merinos average a halfpenny, crossbred a penny, above the closing rates of the last sales. There are G0,200 baies of New Zealand wool catalogued."

The Bank of New Zealand has received the following cable from its London office:—"The wool sales have opened with strong competition and a large attendance of buyers; there is an active demand by all branches of the trade The market is strong for all kinds of erossbreds; prices are higher for coarse Jd to Id per lb, and for medium and fine Id to ljd per lb. Total net quantity New Zealand available, 60,000 bales."
