VICTORIA LEAGUE

A meeting of the Literature Committee of the above was held last Wednesday, when it was decided to hold the first picnic of the juvenile branch on March 7th. It was also decided that the books chosen by the Queen, and which were forwarded from the London branch just before Christmas, should be given as prizes for an essay competition, the subject to be "The Last Battle Fought in the Waikato." The judge will be Mr George Edgecumbe, and all essays must be in by oJ at March and written under supervision.

A social evening has been arranged to take place on March 18th, atjwbich Rev.' Clarke, of Te Awamutu, will lecture on the above subject, at which all those children competing are asked to be present. This will be of material help to them in writ. ing their essay. On Monday evening next a farewell social will be held in the Oddfellows' Hall for the delegates who are representing the Hamilton branch of the league at the Health Conference in London in "May, organised by the London Victoria League. One of the subjects to be discussed at the conference will be "town planning."
