Hobart Cemetery Scandal

INSPECTOR REPORTS. CONFIRMS SEXTON’S STORY. Hobart, January 15. Inspector Wadsworth of the Public Health Department reporting on the Queensborough Cemetery, in connection with which a discharged sexton made astounding allegations yesterday, said he had examined the rubbish heaps and remains of fires in different parts and found the remnants of a child’s coffin partly consumed by fire. There were also two bones. He found another small coffin in another heap. The gravedigger informed him that the coffins were removed on the chairman’s instructions four months ago in order to bury another body. Another heap disclosed a large number of broken coffins.
