PUKEKURA ROAD BOARD

This board met at Cambridge, yesterday, when there were present: Messrs R. Fisher, chairman, R. G, Speake, R. Waite and H. C. Bertlesen.

It was resolved to support the Upper Moutere Road Board in their endeavour to stop road boards being abolished, unless the ratepayers were consulted, snd the resolution forwarded was duly signed by all members of the board present. The Waipa County Council wrote stating it had not yet made any bylaw re the width of tires of vehicles carrying heavy traffic, or for regulating such traffic; but that its supervisor of roads was now gathering in formation about the matter.—The chairman said Parliament was contemplating doing something re the question, and the matter was -deferred for the present. The clerk was instructed to get some surveyor to make a map of the district, the Survey Department stating it did not undertake such work.

The chairman said Mr Bertlesen and himself had inspected the Puahoe road, and had let a contract for reforming and gravelling it to W. Eastwood at 3s 9d per chain, and Is 7*d per yard respectively. Their action was endorsed The following works were autho-rised:—-Reforming about HO chains of the Bush road at Ohaupo and gravelling same, repairing the road between Messrs Jas. Scott and Gane’s farms at Kaipaki, breaking up and reforming a portion of the Redoubt road The Matamata County Council are to be asked to do the necessary work upon the Crow’s Nest deviation at Maungatautari, the board undertaking to pay its share of the cost for the portion within its district. Nothing was done re deviating the road nearly opposite the creamery at Ohaupo, as Mr Storey was not willing to comply with the proposal. . It was decided that in future only ratepayers should be allowed to take gravel from the 0 board’s pits, and only then after they had obtained the written consent of one of the members. The pits have been left in a disgraceful state, and so far only one individual had paid royalty for gravel taken. The passing of the usual monthly accounts concluded the business.
