WAIKATO FARMERS' CLUB

A special meeting of this club was held last evening, the president, Mr J. S. Fisher, being in the chair. There was a largo attendance. It was resolved that the club forward to Mrs W. S. Brunskill and her family a vote of condolence in their recent sad bereavement.

The Department of Agriculture, Industries and Commerce wrote offering to furnish an accurate analysis of each sample of grass and clover seed, that may be exhibited at any shows held under the auspices of the club, provided such samples were sent to the Department six weeks before the date of the show. —Referred to the executive committee to deal with. Mr J. B. Makgill, of Epsom, wrote stating that he should like to represent the Farmers’ Union at a meeting of the club, and address the members on the advantages of affiliating with the union.--The secretary was instructed to arrange for Mr Makgill being present at a meeting a little later in the season. The president brought forward the matter of forming a Cow-Testing Association, which was to have been undertaken by the Cambridge Cooperative Dairy Company. He said he much regretted that the company could not see its way to undertake the work during the present season, and it was now for the farmers to decide should undertake the work themselves.—Mr Butler, secretary of the company, gave several cogent reasons why his directors could not proceed with the work forthwith, or in fact during the current season.

Several suppliers expressed themselves very disappointed at the company not having kept faith with the suppliers, who understood the work would be gone on with; but under the circumstances they did not see what could be done. —Mr Butler undertook to bring the matter up at a meeting of the directors noxc Saturday; but he held out little hope of anything being done. —He was accorded a vote of thanks for attending. The matter of nominating a candidate for the directorate of the Waikato Farmers’ Bacon Company

was brought forward, and the shareholders present requested the president to allow himself to be nominated.—Mr Fisher promised to give a decided answer in two days. The executive committee was asked to look over the schedule ol prizes for the annual root show, and if approved have the same printed. The dairy farmers present spoke of the great inconvenience they are put to at the present by dairy cattle being sold late in the afternoon at the Cambridge sales. This necessitated those who milked being at the sales when they should be at homo attending to their cows.-It was pointed out that much of this was due to the sales not being started punctually. If that was done the tat stock could bo disposed of in time for the butchers to get away by train, and if dairy cattle then re ceived attention the farmers could also be home in time to milk.—A deputation, consisting of Messrs J. S. Fisher, W. J. Andrews, W. Harbutt and A. N. Macky, was appointed to wait upon the auctioneers and endeavour to get the defect remedied.
