Proposed Carnival at Te Aroha.
On Tuesday a largely attended meeting, convened by the Mayor, Mr R. L. Somers, was held in the Te Aroha Town Hall, to consider a proposal to hold a week's carnival. In the unavoidable absence of the Mayor, the chair was taken by Mr J. Rowe, Deputy Mayor, who spoke at some length on the advantages of holding a carnival. Other speakers followed, namely, Messrs Burton, Bowling Club; T. Mclndoe. fanning interests; T. Donovan, band, etc.; Pilkington, fire brigade; Captain Tattersall, military; Rev. Cleary, instrumental music, etc.; Rev. Blair, elocution.
After some further discussion, it was decided that a committee be set up to report to a future meeting as to support promised. The following were elected a committee:—Messrs P. Baine, W. Brodie, T. Donovan, P. Gilchrist, W. R. Johnson, H. Kerr, J. B. Johnson, R. G. Lewis, T. Mclndoe, J. McSweeney, H. McGerr, Captain Pilkington, 0. F. Pilling, R. Parr, J. Rowe, T. D. Rice, R. L. Somers, Captain Tattersall, F. W. Wild.
A great deal of enthusiasm was evinced at the meeting, and it is a foregone conclusion that the picturesque, and flourishing town of Te Aroha will be graced by as successful a carnival as any hitherto held in the Dominion.
