Te Kowhai Farmers' Club.

A meeting of the club was held on Wednesday evening. Messrs W. A. M. King and J. Mathers, were elected as members of the club. The president brought up the matter of the deplorable state of the Te Kowhai-Te Rapa road, and suggested applying to the Government for a grant of £2300, and it was decided that the Government be asked for a grant of £2OO for sanding or metalling the Te Kowhai-Te Rapa road Messrs S. Pullerton, H. Gibbs, and J. Mathers were appointed a deputation to wait on the chairman of the Chamber of Commerce to arrange a meeting with the Mayor of Hamilton to ask them to assist in procuring the grant. It was decided that the attention of the Minister be drawn to the damage done to country roads during the winter months by the extremely heavy traffic, and request that the Government bring in a Bill empowering local bodies to prohibit heavy traffic during the three winter months.

The president brought up the matter of Mr Joshua Mathers' account, their being a small sum of 50s still owing by those who gave labour instead of cash, and it was decided to make a special effort to raise the amount.

Yesterday afternoon a deputation of Te Kowhai farmers waited upon the Mayor of Hamilton, Mr J. A. Young, to ask him if the Hamilton Borough Council would lend its influence to assist them to get a grant of, say, £2OO from the Government towards metalling the new Te Kowhai to Hamilton road. The mayor said that he would gladly do what he could to assist the settlers in question and he felt sure that the Hamilton Borough councillors fully recognised the importance it was, not only to the country district, but to the town that the outlying settlers should have efficient and quick road access to their centres of distribution and exchange. The deputation could rest assured that if a Minister of the Crown visited the districts the council would willingly cooperate with them in emphasising the justice of their claim; but in the meantime he advised them to apply to the Minister for Roads and Bridges through the mem! •■ r for the district, who would keep the matter in mind when the Public Works Estimates were before Parliament.
