The Chilian Murder.
. ♦ —. London, February 22
Reuter’s Santiago correspondent reports that investigations have led to extraordinary revelations in connection with the Chilian murder mystery. The Public Prosecutor came to the conclusion that Chancellor Beckert, of the Berlin Ministry to Chili, invited Bnclman to the Chancellory to sign documents, and the fact that Herr Welceck accompanied Bodman saved the latter’s life.
It is alleged that Beckert intended to shoot Bodman and leave a revolver beside the body, suggesting, suicide, owing to the defalcation of moneys totalling £ISOO.
It is also alleged that with a view to compelling the conclusion that the porter’s body was his own, Beckert extracted two teeth from the mouth of the corpse.
A cable on February 1G stateil that Chancellor Beckert, ot the Berlin Ministry to Chili, who was first reported to have been murdered and later was arrested on a charge of embezzling £IOOO, declares that he killed the porter, whose body was found amid the ruins of the Chancellory, in self defence. The indications showed that the porter had been stabbed before the fire which destroyed the building. It was at first supposed that he had been concerned in causing the fire and had absconded.
