BEAUND APPEAL CASE. Wellington, ’Last Night. The Appeal Court this afternoon gave judgment on the application of Victor M Braund for leave to appeal to the Privy Council against the judgment given by the Court of Appeal on an application made by Mr Braund for an order prohibiting the burning of the books of the lata Colonial Bank. Leave to appeal was refused. A NARROW ESCAPE. Gisborne, This Day. On Monday three young men attempted to cross the Pouawa River. F. Moore rode across first, but the others not caring to make the attempt, Moore started to return and horse and rider were swept down stream and lost to sight, the horse’s upturned heels being seen later on. Moore’s friends were about to give him up as drowned, when it was found that he had caught hold of an overhanging willow tree and was rescued in an exhausted state. The horse was drowned, ASSISTED IMMIGRATION. Auckland, This Day. At a meeting of the Trades and Labour Council it was decided to take steps to lay clearly before the people at Home, who intend emigrating here, a full and complete report on the labour market in the colony. It was also suggested that a mass meeting of disappointed immigrants be called.

SEDDON MEMORIAL, Auckland, This Day. A public meeting, convened by the Mayor, decided to approve of the principle of a memorial to Mr Seddon, to take the form of a large Technical College costing about £30,000, with a statue oi the late Mr Seddon in front of it.
