WAIKATO HOSPITAL BOARD

The monthly meeting of the above board was held at the Board’s ottice yesterday. There were present—Messrs W. Dey (chairman), A. Primrose, MoGulrk, Vickers, Cowling, Fisher, Bellamy and O’Connor. Mr A. Atkins notified that the deadlock between the architects and the builders had ended, and it was decided to call for fresh tenders for the nurse’s homo, returnable on sth December. Mr G. Hardley applied for the transfer of his section. No. 179, Hamilton, to Mr G. C. Sibley—Granted. A letter was received from the Paterangi branch of the Farmers’ Union pointing out the large increase in tho local contributions, and suggesting that the Government should pay for all outside patients, and that stops should ho taken to recover the fees from all within the district. It was pointed out that the local body contributions this year wore £2OO, less than last year, notwithstanding provision being made for the new buildings.—The secretary was instructed to reply stating that the Board only levied for actual requirements, and every endeavour was made to collect tho fees.

Thu Waihi Hospital wrote asking the Hoard to support their endeavour to liavo u definite course of instruction and lectures for nurses arranged by Dr MacGregor. — It was decided that Dr Douglas be asked to report on tho matter to tho Board at its next meet-

ing. It was decided to take tho solicitor’s opinion as to tho legality of claims by the police for destitute patients brought to the hospital. The surgeon-superintendent’s report showed that there were 27 males and 11 females at last return. 25 males and S females had been admitted since, 29 males and S females had been discharged, and there wore 23 males and 11 females in the hospital at date. The treasurer’s report showed a credit balance of £1591 5a Gd, and accounts owing by local bodies at £159 Ss. Tho pay shoot as presented was passed for payment.

This being the last meeting of the board, tho chairman briefly referred to the past year’s work, and thanked the members for their courtesy and assistance. On tho motion of Mr Fisher, a vote of thanks was passed to Mr Dey for the manner in which he had carried out tho business connected with his oflico.
