A LAUDABLE EXAMPLE.
TO THE EDITOH. Sie, —Last week in your report of the Raogiaohia Road Board you mention a very worthy action by Mr W. G. Park, who resides beyond the boundary of above district of giving his usual annual donation of £5 towards the Board's funds. There are other district road boards whero set lers would do well to imitate Mr Park's oxample. I refor especially to the Pukekura Road Board, who make and maintain over six miles of roads whioh are used daily by over a score of settlerß residing outside of the confiscated boundary, carting heavy loaded waggons with their produce into Cambridge, their noorest markot town, taking back manures and limber, who do not pay one penny of rates towards these roads, neither to tho Road Board, or the County Council. I refer especially to tho Mangapiko settleis Messrs Nicklo Bros., .Viessrs Simpson, Robinson and Co., and over a dozen others at the Maungatautan end of the district. According to my reading of Section 8 of the Public Works Act, 1900, these se'tlers could he mado to pay a fair share of the maintenance of these roads by the Pukekura Road Bourd. Thanking you in anticipation for the insertion of this.—l am, otc,
Hdqh Fitzueeald Cambridge, April, 29th, 1904.
