RAGLAN.

On Fiiday evening last an entertainment in aid of the funds of the Kaglau school was held in the Public Hall, The following was the bill of fare for the occasion :—Piano duet, ' Sultan's Grand March,' Mrs and Mr A. Husband ; song, ' Auld Robin Grev,' Mr Husband ; song, 'OS to Philadelphia,' Mr McCarthy; song, ' Tit for Tur,' Mr liarsant ; recitation, ' The v.bowc,' Dalton ; son?, ' The King's Own,' Mr Hamilton ; song, ' Boa Bolt,' Mrs Petitt. The children and those of older growth were then entertained by a lau'ern exhibition, given by Mr C. Husband. Mesdames MrCarthy aid Saunders played the accompaniments An enjoyable evening waß ended with a dance. After paying expeuses the »um of £o Ss was found available for the school fund. The RagluD Public School breaks up on Friday 18th December. The annual sports in connection with tho school will held on that day. At a meeting of directors of the Raglan Printing Company Mr Laugley was appointed auditor. Mr Jas. La l'robe, of Te Uku, haß jnst got £3l per ton for his fhx. MrLaTrobe is noted for the good quality of the fhx turned out from his mill. Many years ago a tennis club was flourishing here, but of recent years the lovers of that game have not practiced together. Wow, however, it is determined to make a fresh start, Mr Eric Lingley having convened a meeting to be held on December 12th for that purpose. Recent rains and unsettled weather are greatly retarding shearing operations in the district. Both at Te Akau and other parts the heavy falls of rain during the last week have been veiy local. In many parts of tho district not a drop fell, whilst in others heavy rain came down. The Northern Company's s.s. Kia Ora takes the place of the Kaneiri on this coast, and is expected on Tuesday next. Mr Blackett, head teacher of the Raglan public school, has received from the parents and residents of the Te Rahu school district, of which Bchool he was the late head master, a beautiful illuminated address executed at tho Herald office and signed by 79 persons, who, in the address, in addition to expressing their high esteem for him and his family and their regret at losing them from their distriot, pay a tribute to his sterling and upright character, as an able teacher and true friend, and in conclusion wish himself and Blackett long years of health und happiness. During the last few days Mr Young, dentist, of Hamilton, has been busily engaged in the pursuit of his profession, and a large number of patients have availed themselves of his valuable services, as he has beeu kept very busy all the time of his sojourn here,—(Own Correspondent.)
