HAMILTON BOXING-DAY SPORTS

Is our advertising columns to-day will be found the full programme of the Hamilton athletic sports to be held on Sydney Square on Boxing-Day, Saturday, December 26. For many yearß these sports were the premier athletic gathering of Waikato, but from some uoaccountable reason they have been allowed to die out altogether. Quite recently a number of local enthusiasts met together and decided that it was in the interests of the public to have a sports gathering in Hamilton on Boxitig'Day. Being of tho ' pushing ' element, they quickly got to work, with the result that they ar« able to publish to-day a good programme of 16 events to suit all sorts and s'zes, thepiize money amounting to over £3O, the chief event being the Half-mile Boxing-Day Handicap of £6. The committee have the arrangements well in hand, and we trust that the public will respond liberally and roll up in numbers and help to make this gathering a success and an annual affair, Besides being au ideal spot for a sports gathering, Sydney Square is a most suitable ground for a picnic, and fathers, mothers and children can spend a most enjoyable outing under the shade of the trees while viewing the different events and listening to the sweet music being discoursed by the Hamilton Band under Bandmaster Savage. Tho hon. sec. (Mr F. H. Tuck) is the right man in the right place, and is leaving no stone unturned to make the gathering a success. Entries for tho various events close with the Secretary at Hamilton on Tueaday, December 15th.
