MEETING Oh RATEPAYERS AT WAINGARO.

TO THE EDITOK. Sis, —Your account of the meeting held at the Wuingaro Public Hall on August 15th, though a very clear and strictly truthful report, seems to me likely to give a wrong impression to anyone not actually present at the meeting. As Chairman I had a pretty good opportunity of judging the tone of the meetiug, and must say that although there was a lot of outspoken criticism on the way the borrowed money hud been spent, nearly all present wore of the opinion that if any blame was attachable to Mr Howett, his faults were purely errors of judgment and only one or two thought of making an accusation of breach of faith. To let everyone who may have read the report of the meeting know that this accusation was unfounded, is my reason for writing this. Since the meeting of August 15th, I have hten shown correspondence which, being practically of a private nature, cannot be made public, but which 1 can guiranteo shows that Mr Hewett did his best to carry out what he agreed to do, and that there are absolutely no grounds for accusing him of haviug broken his word. I have no doubt that those who made the accusa* tion considered they were quite justified in doing so, but I am certain that if they knew all the details as to what had takeu place concerning the whole matter they would be the fir»t to acknowledge that they had been rather too hasty in pasting judgment.—'Sours, etc., Ronald Seavill.
