He said he favourably received the suggestion that tire brigade* should be maintained by the local bodies and insurance companies, but the Government thoiU'lit that without State fire insurance such a propnsil was not p'uctiuable, as the insurance companies would immediately compensate them* selves by increasing premiums, ihorcfotu the people would in the end suffer. He thought that a ciMiniissiim should be issued to officers of tire limeades on the same basis as volunteer commissions, in order encourage the men who devoted their time to the movement.
