The Cambridge Band will play a number of selections in the Jubilee Garden, opposite the National Hotel, this evening, commencing about 8 o'clock. A Wellington correspondent predicts that the Hon. Thomas Thompson, of Auckland, ex-Miuiater for Justice, will be included in the next batch of Legislative Councillors. There is exhibited in Mr Thos. Wells' store, at Cambridge, a very handsome sterling silver cup, which has been, presented to the Cambridge Gur>. Club by tho Colonial Ammunition Company of Auckland, and is to be competed for by the members of any of the Waikato gun clubs, but the contest mest take place at Cambridge. The cup is a massive oue, and the competition for it will doubtless be very keen. The committee of the club will decide the terms of the competition at its next meeting. The Wellington City returning officer has received returns of expenses from all the candidates who contested the Wellington seats at the general election, the last to hand being that of Mr George Fisher, who places his expenses at £7 19s. The members of the Cambridge Choral Society are asked to meet in Victoria Hall on Monday evening next at 7.30 for the purpose of continuing the practice of Cowan's ' Rose Maiden.' A meeting of the Committee was held yesterday afternoon, when Mr J. H. Edwards wa3 asked to act as conductor during the temporary absence of Mr T, H. Bosworth, the latter unfortunately being at present in the Waikato Hospital. All members are earnestly requested to roll up, as several matters of importance need dealing with promptly, and the Committee wish the opiuion of all upon them. 'Happy Days We Passed Together' ; God Save the King. The band will also give a moonlight concert at the Waikato Hospital on Wednesday evening next. Since Mr Mettam has taken charge of this band ho has proved himself a capable and painstaking master, and is to be congratulated on the high efficiency to which the various members have attained. The annual general meeting of the Waikato Poultry, Pigeon and Canary Club will be held in St. Peter's Schoolroom, Hamilton, on Monday next, at 8 p.m. It is to be hoped there will he a full attendance, as the business includes the election of officers, receiving of the report and balance-sheet, etc. TheCinb has already done good work, and we believe there is a great future before it, including a love for the ' fancy.' Poultry is daily becoming a more important feature on the holding of the progressive farmer and societies, such as the one under notice, do excellent service in bringing out the prominent features of the different breeds, thereby onabling the poultryreiser to devote his energies in the moot profitable channels. Thus it behoves all to support the local societies if for no higher reason than self-interest. The committee aro requested to meet at 7-15 P.m. on Monday in the New Zealand Loan Company's office. An accident occurred at Oparan, Kawhia. yesterday, to Mr Arthur Yelle-. He was chopping a log, when the axe s!ip| eland inflicted a deep cut just at his aukle. His injuries were temporarily attended to, and he «vas brought by Mr S. Conn to the Waikato Hospital, arriving thereat 3 a.m. this morning, oud his injuries were at once attended to by Dr. Douglas. The Committee of the Hamilton West School h.ive decided to open tr.e High School with some ceremony on Monday morning at 930 His Worship the Mayor, Mr R. W.
