HAUTAPU DRAINAGE BOARD

A MEETING of this Board was held on Saturday afternoon, when there were present; : Messrs J. Forrest (chairman), S. Cowling, W. H. Hall aud G. Watt.

The Clerk reported he had collected all the rates due but one of 12s lid, and he should sue for that without further notice.

The Chairman read a statement of the financial position of the Board, which showed the liabilities to exceed the assets by £2 18s 4d. Knowing there would be a small deficit to be made up before the Board could be abolished, Mr Cowling had collected 35s from the ratepayers and each member of the Board handed in ss. so that put the finances in credit, after all liabilities have been discharged to the extent of 6s Bd, which, as the Cnairman remarked, would just about pay the audit fees. The Chairman aud Clerk were deputed to forward a letter to the Colonial Secretary, asking to have the Board abolished at rhe earliest possible moment; and as soon h a reply is received a meeting of th ! e ratepayers will be held to give them an opportunity of saying if they acree to the Board being abolished, orwhether they would like the drainage district enlarged, so as to take in several more outlets.
