WAITOA ROAD BOARD

The monthly meeting of the above Board took place in the Council Chambers, Morriusville, on Saturday last. Present: Messrs Chepmel! (in the chair), Borne, Aitken, Farmer and Cole. Koad Repaies. Mr Steele wrote drawing the 'attention of the Board to theViateof the road betweeu his property and that of Mr Knight. He expressed his willingness to put in 10 days in repairing the road for the sum of £'2.— The offer was accepted.

[At this stage the usual business was adjourned and the annual meeting was held, when the yearly balance-sheet was read and adopted. 1 Mikk'eesbn's Dtiain —Mr W. Carmichael notified the Board that wheu he tendered for the work at this drain it was specified as 90 chains, but subsequent measurement showed it to be chains, and he requested extra payment for the work —The Board decided that it could not pay the claim unless it was certified to by au engineer. Scotchman's Valley Road.—An application from Mr K. H, Grey for repairs to this road was not entertained, the Board considering it to be in a far better condition than most of the other roads in the district.

Loveurovk's Road.—Mr J. Tattersall wrote calling attention to the bridge taken off this road and a set of pipes put in which were next to useless, and not able to carry away anything like the amount of water flowing, consequently it flooded the road and backed up over the adjoining land ; about 100 acres being under water as a result. He considered as the settlers affected paid their rates they were entitled to receive consideration.—Mr Farmer proposed and the Chairman seconded, that as soon as possible the pipes be taken up and a bridge substituted.

Objectionable Practice. —At this juncture Foreman McMeekin drew the Board's attention to the practice of settlers damming across outfall drains during summer months in order to obtain water for cattle, but neglecting to remove the same in winter, and as a result roads were flooded in places and outfalls damaged. Poole's Drain.—Mr Firmer reported that Mr Poole had definitely decided not to allow the proposed outfall drain to go through his property. He had asked Mr Pavit't to prepare plans and levels of the new coarse of drain. In consequence of alteration the length was increased 20 chains, at au additional cost of £lB. The total cost will be £ll9 10s.—The alterations were approved of by the Board, but as the work is to be done by a Government grant it will be necessary to obtain au approval of the work before it is commenced.—Mr Farmer said Mr Jackson was prepared to contribute £3 towards the cost, and ho was deputed to interview the other settlers interested with a view to obtaining other contributions. Seddon's Road.—Mr Borrie reported that this road was in a deplorable state. —A resolution by the Chairman, that the matter be deferred till the next meeting, was carried. Report on Roads.—lt was resolved that each foreman be instructed to draw up a plan of scheme of works required for each district.

NairrmiANCiA Road.—On the motion of Mr Borrie, seconded by Mr Aitken, it was decided to call for tenders for wideniug half-a-milo of this road ; returnableafc next meeting.

Outt.kt —Mr Borrie said Mr Bygrave approached him re outlet to his property. Mr Bygrave had been 17 years in the district without an outlet, and as settlers of 12 months' standing had roads made to their property, he thought something should be done.—The Chairman said there was no money in the exchequer. Standby Road.— It was resolved ou the motion of Mr Farmer, seconded by Mr Cole, that " thirds " be expended in clearing Li-tree off SUuley Road from Shaftesbury to Waiharakeke. Accounts.—The following accounts were passed for payment :—J. McSheffrey, £lO 7a 6d ; Te Aroha hews, £1 6s Gd ; J. M. Master, 7s 8d ; J. B. Johnson, £1 10s 3d; M. Bemrose, £S ; Te Aroha Timber Co., £l7 4s Id; M. Kiely, ISs ; A. Thackrey, 12s Gd ; M. Crouin, £6 6a; J. McSweeuey, £6 12e ; petty cash, £4.
