FAREWELL SOCIAL AT OHAUPO.
A farewell social was tonderedMr Norman Somerfiold in the Public Hall on Friday evening, on his leaving for Auckland to take up his duties iu the New Zealand Loan and Meicmtile Co.’s office in that centre. He had been for some
time past in their office in Uhaupo. The hall was nicely decorated, and about 60 young people were present to do honour to their guest. Mr C. Teddy acted as M.C., and the music for dancing was supplied by Messrs Land and Peat, assisted by Mr Smith on the piauo. Seve* ral songs were rendered during the evening by Miss D, Graham and Messrs Dilon aud Sornerfield. At the supper, which followed, Mr C. Teddy, in a neat and appropriate speech, spoke of the regret they felt at the departure of Mr Sornerfield from the district, and was glad to say the change would lead to his promotion. While here Mr Somorfield had taken an interest in all their social entertainments, and in conclusion wished him every health and prosperity in his future career, and called for three cheers for their guest, which were heartily given. Mr Sornerfield was the recipient of a pair of gold sleeve-dinks, presented to him by Mr Teddy and family as a token of their esteem and regard for him, he having resided in their hotel during his residence in Ohaupo, and also a gold watch pendant from Mr A. Graham and family. Mr Sornerfield thauked the residents ol Ohaupo for their kindly expressions ot goodwill, and also Messrs Teddy and Uraham and families for their presents, and said he would always have pleasant recollections of the time he spent iu Ohaupo. Dancing was kept up till about lam., when all returned home, having thoroughly enjoyed themselves.
