NGARUAWAHIA.

SOCIAL.—A social which proved to lie an immense success was held on the Ist of July in the Ngaruawabia Town Hull in connection with the Waingaro Football Club. Although the early part of the day was exceedingly wet, the evening turned out tolerably fine, and the entertainment drew a very large audience The only drawback to the evening's amusement lay in the fact that the hall was not laree enough to hold the audience which assembled, and in consequence the floor was taxed to the utmost every dance. Ihe programme opened with the song " On the Ball," sung by Mr W. Paterson. Between the verses were shown the four football tableiux — " Kick-off," " Line-out," " Scrum," and " A Kiok at Goal,"—by the members of the Waingaro Football Club in uniform. Songs were sung during the evening by the Misses Butcher (3) and Paterson. and by Messrs Hunt, Simmelhag, Paterson and Sheehan. Each and every item was well received. Mr Sjmmelhag's comic songs were the attraction of the evening, and the efforts of Mr Sheehan, who made his first appearance before a Ngaruawahia audience, were much appreciated. Mr Hartly, of Cambridge, played the accompaniments and dance music, and gave every satisfaction. At about half-past ten refreshments, which were kindly provided by the ladies of the township, were handed round. Dancing was kept up till 1.30 a.m., when all left, thoroughly well satisfied with their evening's amusement -(Own Correspondent).
