DROWNED AT SEA.
MAN Losi FROM WAHINE LAST NIGHT. DARKNESS & RAIN MAKE SEARCH HOPELESS. CHRISTCHURCH, September 6. A special message from a representative of the “Christchurch Press" aboard the Wahine, states that a man was lost overboard at 9.40 to-night. The only description available is that the man was young, dressed in a grey suit and wearing a heavy overcoat. The steamer ran probably two miles before the occurrence was reported to the bridge. Captain Howie immediately turned the ship, circled the spot three times and had a boat prepared in readiness. The night was black dark, with rain and a search was hopeless. After one hour, the ship resumed her course. —(P.A.)
