PRIMARY EDUCATION.

CARTERTON SCHOOL COMMITTEE. (The “Age” Special.) The chairman, Mr. C. E. Blake, presided at a meeting of the Carterton School Committee, held last night. A circular letter received from the Education Board stated that, with the exception of schools in the Marlborough portion of the board’s district, no celebrations were to be held at schools on Coronation Day. The Rev. W. F. Stent was granted the use of the grounds at the main school on June 9 for Bible Class sports. The Education Board wrote congratulating the committee on the excellent manner in which the balance sheet was presented. A vote of thanks was passed to the treasurer, Mr. J. Finn. The headmaster reported that the roll number at the primary school was 851 and in the secondary department 54. He said it was gratifying to note that most of the children were doing the school work sent out for them. It was stated that the headmaster was to purchase additional library books, the expenses to be met by profits from the school ball. The works committee was instructed to report on the condition of the furniture and the sheds at the old school.
