MISS BATTEN’S FLIGHT.
LONDON TO BASRA IN TWO DAYS. NIGHT JOURNEY ACROSS IRAK. ACHIEVEMENT HIGHLY PRAISED. LONDON, October 7. Miss Jean Batten, the New Zealand aviatrix, who is endeavouring to create a new flight record from England to her homeland, arrived at Karachi at 7.10 local time, and is to leave for Allahabad to-morrow. After leaving the Irak Petroleum Co.’s pumping station midw’ay between Damascus and Bagdad, she flew on to Basra, where she remained for about an hour. Miss Batten’s achievement in reaching Basra in two days from London is highly praised, especially her splendid night-flying across Irak. AT GREAT ALTITUDE. AVOIDANCE OF SEVERE SAND STORMS. KARACHI, October 7. Miss Batten says that she encountered sever© sand storms over .Task, and was compelled to fly at a height of 10,000 feet. DEPARTURE FROM KARACHI.
