The many friends of Miss Dorothy McLeod, o'f “ Mangapari, ’' Martinborough, whose wedding to Mr. Frank Hockley takes place on October 15* honoured her with a gift afternoon at the “Top Hat” tea-rooms, Martinbot;ough, on Tuesday. During the after** noon a competition was won by Miss Isabel Smith and Miss T. Taylor played a pianoforte solo. Afternoon tea was served. Miss McLeod many useful gifts for the furnishing of her home. | | The funeral of the late Mrs. M. Thorby took place yesterday, leaving the residence of Mrs. A. T. Jackson, High Street, Masterton for St. Columbus Church, Mangamahoe, where a service was conducted by the Rev. J. E. Jones, who also officiated at the graveride at the Hastwell Cemetery. There was a large and representative attendance of mourners from all parts of the district and many beautiful wreathe were received. The pall bearers were Messrs A. Scarff, A. Madsen, W. Scarff, W. Henson, G. Halberg and G. Reading. • i A pleasant evening was spent in the “Rawhiti” woohkpd on Tuesday, when the many friends of Miss Janet Glover gave her a parcel evening in honour of her approaching marriage. The evening was spent in dancing. At a suitable interval, Mr. McGuinness, on behalf of all present, and the resident® of the Westmere and Poro Poro districts, wished Miss Glover every happiness in her future, and asked her to accept a handsome array of, gifts. Mr. Fryer suitably responded on behalf of Miss Glover. The ladies of the district provided home-made supper. The singing of “Auld Lang Syne” brought the evening to a close.
