Mr. N. C. C. Shepherd, of Featherston, has been appointed" Scout Commissioner for the Wairarapa District. A motion of condolence with the relatives of the late Mrs. Gawith, Sun, w r as passed at last night’s meeting of the St. Matthew’s Boy Scout Group..: The many friends of Mr. H. Stears, of 350 Queen Street, will regret to learn that he is seriously ill in the Masterton Hospital. There is a steady improvement in the condition of Dr. G. 8. Sharp, of Featherston, who recently suffered severe blood poisoning. At last night’s meeting of the Masterton Horticultural and Industrial Society votes of condolence were passed to the relatives of the late Mesdames R. Maunsel} and Gawith, Senr., both of whom were valued members of the society over a long period of years. Mr. George Lauchlan, assistant general manager and distribution engineer of the Wellington municipal electricity department, died suddenly yesterday morning. Mr. Lauchlan was 63 years of age, and would have retired from the cityjfervice next year after nearly fifty yett- of work in the development and advancement of Wellington.

Mr. H. P. Hugo, retiring president of the Masterton Horticultural and Industrial Society, was last night elected a life member of the society in recognition of his valuable services during the past fifteen years. For the past six years Mr. Hugo has occupied the position of president and eulogistic reference was made by members to the very keen interest he had always taken in the activities of the society. 1

The marriage took- place on Wednesday afternoon at the residence of Mrs. J. Morris, Te Ore Ore, of Nancy Mary, younger daughter of Mrs. and the late Mr. Joseph Morris, Te Ore Ore, to Arthur Erl, fourth son of Mrs. Stratford and the late Mr. Frank Percy, “Ellesmere,” Te Ore Ore. Mrs. Morris and Mrs. Stratford entertained over fifty guests at the reception. The Rev. J. Davie officiated. Mr. and Mrs. Percy left later by car for a tour of the North.

The funeral of the late Julia Teresa Dwyer, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. Dwyer, of Albert Street, took place at the Masterton Cemetery yesterday morning following Requiem Mass at St. PatrUk’s Church. The cortege was a large one and included pupils from St. Bride’s Convent School. The pallbearers were Messrs W. Brady, F. O'Toole, J. Bradbury and P. Hynes. The Requiem Mass was celebrated by the Rev. Father Foley and the service at the graveside was performed by the Rev. Father Dillion. A large number of beautiful wreaths were received.
